scary stuff....beware

so I started getting chest pains this past weekend and had hoped it would just go away on its own. Well, it didn't, so I went to the ER today. My dad had triple bypass surgery 5-6 years ago, so i was very worried for my heart. Turns out my heart is healthy (YAH!), but I have Costochrondritis which could be due to working out too much and straining your chest muscles. go figure, i get hurt for being active and healthy. LOL!

so uber scary to even admit the chest pain, I called my ins companies nurse advice line (side note, I didn't call work because they weren't open yet!) and she advised me to go to the ER, so I called my mom, in tears (of course!) and she took me in and she literally stayed with me all day, until she had to go to work and then my dad came and picked me up. my parents are amazing. My mom didn't even complain once. She's a good one to have, my dad too. I'm very blessed. My dad was joking that they double tagged me today! ha! Its nice to have such amazing parents who are always there for me no matter what.

nothing like having bad health to make you grateful for good health. I think this will definitely help me be better with our patients who come in to the clinic.

I even got to see what our new uniforms will look like when we merge with CentraCare in September and the girl who checked me in looked so cute! phew! and don't even get me started on the doctor! so cute, I think both mom and I forgot to listen to my diagnosis because he was so cute! ha! i told her when he comes back, i'll look at this name tag and you look at his ring finger. Turns out he had a ring, darn it! oh well! good times in the ER with the Sommers family! Last time my parents were there was when my brother had a concussion and he threw up with every step he took! oh man!

To summarize, be thankful for your health!

Good night and God Bless!

prayer time with God = a good counseling session

so I feel like I've been in a prayer rut lately.... I feel like I pray the same thing all the time, but today well today was different. It felt like I talked to God like he was my bestie and it was SOOOOO good. Of course there were tears, doesn't help that its my time this month either LOL! but it was so, so good!

Thank you father for being my best friend and my counselor!

Also Merry Christmas PS

One of the FUNNIEST things that happened.....

When we were driving to Christmas Eve Services, my dad was driving and he put his hand behind his seat and grabbed my knee and said "After all I do for you this is how you repay me!" which is EXACTLY what he used to do to us kids after he would take us out for supper or do something nice and then we would act like kids do and he would yell at us. My sister said my eyes got really big, because I was thinking "what, I'm 32 years old now, how am I getting in trouble from my dad", it was SOOOOOO funny!!

Merry Christmas!!

I hope you all had a wonderful and blessed Christmas, I know the Sommers Family did! I'm so incredibly blessed!!

We had so much fun, I said "screw it" to the diet and am currently experiencing a food coma, but I'm gonna get back on track tomorrow.

It started Christmas Eve afternoon, basically for the Sommers family its all about low key, easy, and laughs and that is exactly how it was! My dad even went to Godfather's and got my favorite pizza in Albany, which is about a 40 minute drive and it was AMAZING and my sister made Christmas Crack which is seriously like crack!!! LOL!

My sister is really into make up, so she dolled up me and my momma and dang we looked so cute at our home churches Christmas Eve services, which was so great, but I was so distracted by my friends 8 month old twins. They are so cute and we basically passed them around our rows, LOL! It was so fun to catch up with friends from our home church and then we went home for PRESENTS! And of course we were the last ones to leave as always!

We then ate some more and then read the Christmas story from the bible, which is one of my FAVORITE traditions and then we opened presents! my parents got me a queen sized bed for my birthday, which was in November, so my Christmas was a lot of little things. it was so funny, my mom found some of mine and my sisters old jewelry and wrapped it for us! She even found my old locket with a picture of me and my kitten inside and I remember putting that picture in, but my sister pointed out that it was upside down, too funny!

Casey (our dog) who is like my baby sister and the center of attention (considering she is only 2 years old) even got us pictures of her baby puppies that she had this summer and Mickey Mouse got me some stickers! so many fun gifts! I got dad some bars of soap since he said that millennials are getting rid of bars of soap and he loved it. He also loves Gracie Vanderwald (no idea how to spell her name) and she is 12 years old and just won America's Got Talent and my dad LOVES her voice, and so my sister got her CD for our dad and he was so excited!

After presents my parents came up with a trivia game, 10 categories with 10 answers, some of the categories were:

Name 10 Star Wars characters that weren't human, name 10 injuries and/or accidents that us kids have had, name all the neighbors who have lived on our street, etc... it was so fun! better find out how much we made for all our answers! some categories were easy and some were not..

Then Christmas morning we slept in, watched movies, ate, and chilled. My sister then introduced me to the Baby Sitters Club Club podcast, which is two guys who talk about the BSC books and it is SOOOOO funny! I now have a new workout podcast! So much fun! sad it's over, but I am so blessed and love my family.

Hope you and your loved ones had a Merry Christmas and here's to a great 2017!

Love, Kristin

PS Maybe I'll blog more in the new year??? maybe, we'll see! ha!

Crossroads Mall stabbing... requesting prayers

So two weeks ago yesterday a Somali man stabbed 10 people at my local mall. I'm still in shock and so sickened by this. No one was killed though because a police officer (who was off duty) killed the stabber. Thank God he was there that day.

Its made me pretty nervous and on edge since it happened and I wasn't even there. I actually went to the mall for the first time yesterday and I was kinda nervous, but I only went into Target, but baby steps right? I know because one person of Somali descent has done this does not mean all Somalis are bad, but its pretty scary.

Its been hard to live in St. Cloud lately as we have a lot of Somali refugees, so we could definitely use prayers. I think its been hard because St. Cloud is so small and to have a lot of refugees who don't know english or our customs has been hard. I mean I saw a Somali family cross the road right in front of another car.... so scary. If I ever make it to Austria or Paris, France, even for just a trip, I would want to learn their language and it just feels like a lot of the Somalians are not even trying. I get what they went through back home was probably very, very traumatic, but I wish they would try. I never have ever seen a Somalian person with a translation book, but they just come in and expect someone to figure out what they want, its very frustrating, to say the least.

I think our whole country could use lots of prayers for the upcoming election. I still have no idea who to vote for. I'm very glad that God has a plan, but I sure wish he would tell me who I should vote for as our options are not good, but I still want to vote as I consider this a wonderful privilege we as American citizens have to voice our opinion and I love getting the red I voted sticker too! LOL!!

9/11/2001

Wow, I can't believe its been 15 years since that awful day where America was attacked. I know most of you know this but my dad, cousins, and I were on top of the original world trade center in August of 2001 and its crazy to me how this happened a couple weeks later.

I still remember getting a phone call from my dad at schooling telling me that the towers were both down, and I just did not believe him. "we were just there, those things could never come down". everyone around me was talking about it, but I just wanted to get home so I could show my dad that those towers were still up. I got home and found out that I was wrong, I wish I had been right.

Continuing to pray for those affected by those terrible acts of violence. May we never forget. Thank you to those who protect our great country.
